How to get the summer makeup look – 2021

You’ve seen this summer makeup look trending on pinterest and tikok and you want to know how to do it.

I tried so many different ways of achieving this look by watching so many youtube videos and then I finally understood how to do it.

If you want to know how to get the infamous summer makeup look which is sunkissed, glowy and summery then read on because I have the perfect tips on how you can achieve that.

Start with a moisturised base for a summer glow:

The initial and perhaps most important step is the base of your makeup.

Your base is going to set you up for success and help you get that glowy skin.

After your skincare, apply some sunscreen then your favourite moisturiser to keep your skin hydrated and looking healthy and to protect you from harmful rays. (click here to find out more about the best sunscreen for summer).

For sunscreen I use the Solbar Sunscreen Shield in the SPF 50 + for extra protection.

Another sunscreen of mine which I love is the Garnier Sunscreen in SPF 50+ and I use both sunscreens religiously.

After applying my sunscreen, I then apply my favourite moisturiser which is Charlotte Tilbury magic cream and then finish of with some setting spray from Mac.

Skip foundation – Use concealer & cream contour.

This step is optional but I do recommend you skip using foundation for this look.

This is because foundation isn’t the most suitable for the hot, sticky summer weather and can leave a matte and insta-glam look instead of a glossy, light shiny look.

Conceal any blemishes, spots and uneven skin tones with concealer and finish with a light powder to seal it all in and prevent creasing.

My go-to concealer is the Maybelline Fit-Me concealer which is light-weight whilst being full coverage and oh, a perfect match with my skin-tone.

I love using cream contours to sculpt my face. For this particular look less is more.

Again this step is completely optional but will help give you a more glowy, summery look.

Blush to make you look sunkissed:

A crucial step in bringing the whole look together is the blush. The blush gives the impression of a sunkissed beautiful red pigment on your face perfect for the summer days.

Apply the blush across the bridge of your nose (the middle) and apply some on your cheeks.

This is where the sun is most likely to cause sunburn to give you a beautiful red glow.

Instead of using blush I use a red lipstick and I blend it in accordingly with a beauty blender.

This Charlotte Tilbury red lipstick is my go-to blush at the moment.

Faux freckles are the way to go:

My favourite step out of this whole list – faux freckles. If you have freckles naturally you may want to skip this step.

For all my girls like me who aren’t born with freckles, fear not because we can improvise and create our own:)

Using a brown lip liner I create freckles on the bridge of my nose and then I draw the freckles coming of my nose and merging into my cheeks.

The amount of freckles is completely optional and where you put them.

I love this step as I can go completely wild with how many freckles I use.

You can either use a brown lip liner or a brow pencil – It’s entirely up to you!

Press little dots into your skin on your nose and join to your cheeks. Once you’ve done this, pat very lightly to make the freckles appear more natural.

Highlighter to give you that summer glow:

Another important step is the highlighter.

This is going to finish off your look and give you a gleaming, bright glow as if you’re reflecting the beautiful sunrays off your flawless sunkissed skin.

Apply your highlighter on the top of your cheeks, your nose, on your brow bone and along your temples to ‘highlight’ the areas where the sun hits the most.

I use the Hudabeauty highlighter to give me that flawless glow. Use a liquid highlighter for the best results to get a great summer makeup look.

Lip Gloss:

Finally, the last step is to apply a lip gloss over a lip liner or lipstick.

I like to use the Charlotte Tilbury lip liner in the shade Hot Gossip and I finish it off with the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Gloss.

Using a lip gloss helps give you a glowy look which is the last and final step of this makeup look.

Conclusion:

  1. Moisturised base – Use thick, glossy moisturisers and sunscreens enriched with SPF to give you the perfect glowy base.
  2. Skip foundation – Use concealer & cream contours to prevent a matte look.
  3. Run your blush along the bridge of your nose and cheeks to create a sunkissed look.
  4. Freckles – embrace your freckles & if you don’t have any (like me) you can draw them on with a brown lip liner or brow pencil.
  5. Highlight accordingly – without highlight, the entire makeup look will remain incomplete so put highlighter on the high points of your face including your nose, top of your cheeks, temples and brow bone to complete the glowy healthy look.
  6. Lip gloss over your favourite lipstick or liner for a summery, glowy look.

These steps/tips or what ever you want to call it are here to help you achieve that summer, sunkissed glowy look which is a major trend at the moment and I can see why.

You don’t have to follow these tips/steps exactly as we all know what works on our face and what doesn’t but these steps have helped me create this look.
